“Borboleta is an Australian-based ensemble that manages to execute a well-chosen repertoire without any cultural stereotyping or clichés. This CD encapsulates the essence of Brazil – joy, melancholy and community. Somewhat understated but so full of life, Borboleta warms the heart and loosens the hips.” [review by Alf Van Dyke – from CD jacket]
Singing beautiful percussive Portuguese lyrics, Borboleta blends traditional a cappella styles with uniquely Brazilian samba chorus arrangements. The rhythms take the listener from the insistent samba grooves traditional to Rio, through to dense choral harmonies of Minas Gerais to indigenous chants and further north-east to the Afro-percussive sounds of Bahia.
