The ability to express the deepest feelings – love, hatred, jealousy, humour and desire – can be heard within this Mexican compilation. This album touches on just a few of the styles that are played in Mexico, offering an introduction to the city sounds but also tracing these back to the traditional music that gave birth to them. Apart from the soul and the voice, what these track have in common is a great irreverence, a sense of humour and a passion for life and love that is not frightened by extremes. It is possibly the first time an album has brought together Mexican music from the worlds of rock, ska, cabaret, dancehall and the village fair, but hopefully it won’t be the last.
